『백범일지』를 통해 본 역사적 김구와 기억된 김구

한국 근현대사에서 백범 김구만큼 ‘민족독립’이라는 명제에 초지일관한 인물도 드물 것이다. 김구의 일생은 시간적으로는 1870년대에서 1940년대를 포괄하고 있으며, 공간적으로는 한반도와 중국대륙을 무대로 전개되었다. 이 두 가지 측면은 김구의 삶을 분석하고 해석하는데 매우 중요한 포인트라고 할 수가 있다. 그것은 첫째, 시간적인 관점에서 볼 때, 한국의 중요한 역사적 계기 내지는 사건들과 김구의 삶이 정면으로 마주하고 있다는 점이다. 둘째, 공간적으로 김구의 삶은 40대 중반을 경계로 하여 한반도와 중국으로 분리되다가, 70세가 되어 다시 본국으로 돌아오게 되었다. 김구 일생에서 이러한 공간적인 ‘분리와 통합’은 그의 현실인식이나 사상을 해석하는데 중요한 하나의 포인트로 지적될 수 있다. 이 두 가지 사실은 김구의 정치사상적인 측면을 이해하고자 할 때 중요한 관점을 제시해 준다. 본고에서는 김구자서전 『백범일지』를 분석하고, 여기에 나타난 김구의 의식변화를 <명분>이라는 용어로 정리하였다. 『백범일지』 친필본 상·하권은 독립투쟁을 전개하는 과정에서 작성되었다. 그리고 『백범일지』 순한글본(국사원본)은 해방 후 작성되었다. 『백범일지』 상권은 자식에게 주는 비밀스런 기록이었으며, 하권은 자신이 겪은 독립운동 기록이다. 이 친필본 상권과 하권을 통합하고 한권으로 엮어, 전혀 새롭게 한글로 구성한 것이 『김구자서전 백범일지』이다. 이 연구는 『백범일지』의 변천과정을 분석하여, 김구의 의식 변화와 행동의 한 측면을 제시한 것이다. 특히 『백범일지』에 지속적으로 등장하는 <명분>이 김구의 의식 변화와 행동 양식을 규정하였다는 내용을 중심으로 이루어졌다. 그리하여 친필본 『백범일지』 단계에서 명분은 대한민국임시정부 보위라는 측면이, 해방 후에는 임시정부의 법통과 자주적 민족을 수호하는 측면으로 작용하였다는 결론을 얻게 되었다.
Abstract
In the modern and contemporary history of Korea, few people are as consistent with the proposition of ‘national independence’ as Baekbeom Kim Gu. Kim Gu’s life encompasses the 1870s to 1940s in time, and spatially unfolded on the Korean Peninsula and continental China. These two aspects can be said to be very important points in analyzing and interpreting Kim Gu’s life. First, from a temporal point of view, important historical events or events in Korea and Kim Gu's life face each other. Second, Kim Gu's life was separated into the Korean Peninsula and China with the boundary of his mid-40s, and then returned to his home country at the age of 70. This spatial ‘separation and integration’ in Kim Gu's life can be pointed out as an important point in interpreting his perception of reality or ideas. These two facts provide important perspectives when trying to understand Kim Gu’s political and ideological aspects. In this paper, Kim Gu Ja-seo’s 『Baekbumilji』 was analyzed, and the change of Kim Gu’s consciousness that appeared here was summarized in the term “myeongbun”The upper and lower volumes of the handwritten copy of 『Baekbeom Ilji』 were written in the process of developing the independence struggle. In addition, the pure Korean version of 『Baekbeom Ilji』 was written after liberation. The commercial district of 『Baekbeom Ilji』 was a secret record given to children, and the lower volume is the record of the independence movement he experienced. The composition of 『Kim Koo Ja-seojeon Baekbeom Ilji』 is completely newly composed of Hangeul by integrating this handwritten commercial district and the lower volume into one volume. This study analyzed the transition process of 『Baekbeom Ilji』 and suggested one aspect of Kim Gu’s consciousness change and behavior. In particular, it was centered on the content that “Myeongjeol”, which continuously appears in 『Baekbeom Ilji』, defined Kim Gu’s consciousness change and behavioral style. Thus, in the stage of the handwritten 『Baekbeom Ilji』, it was concluded that the justification served as the aspect of protecting the provisional government’s legal spirit and the independent nation after liberation.
