Abstract
The vision for the 8th term of Incheon’s municipal administration is to establish Incheon as a “orld-class city where citizens are happy.”On the second anniversary of its inception, the administration set the policy directions for the latter half of the term as “cheon’s Leap” and “Citizen Happiness.”The purpose of this study is to contribute to policy development aligned with the 8th administration’s vision and the realization of citizen happiness through the following objectives: First, to demonstrate the impact of interpersonal trust among Incheon citizens on life satisfaction and subjective well-being; second, to examine the moderating effect of volunteer experiences in the relationship between life satisfaction and subjective well-being; and third, to derive implications for enhancing subjective well-being. The hypotheses were tested using the AMOS structural equation modeling and Hayes' Process Macro Model 14, yielding the following findings: First, Interpersonal trust among Incheon citizens positively influenced subjective well-being and life satisfaction. Second, Life satisfaction had a positive effect on subjective well-being. Third, Life satisfaction partially mediated the relationship between interpersonal trust and subjective well-being. Fourth, Volunteer experiences moderated the mediating effect of interpersonal trust on subjective well-being via life satisfaction. The implications are as follows: First, By systematically verifying the roles of interpersonal trust and volunteer experiences in research on subjective well-being and life satisfaction, the study contributes to theoretical advancement. Second, The study underscores the importance of interpersonal trust, a form of social capital, in enhancing life satisfaction and subjective well-being, thereby suggesting the need for programs aimed at fostering interpersonal trust among citizens. Additionally, it highlights the importance of expanding local cultural and tourism facilities and leisure programs to improve citizens’ overall happiness. Finally, the limitations of the study and directions for future research were discussed.
