Press development under King Seongjong's reign was basically attributable to reduction of royal authority due to King Seongjong’s accession and transition of power structure according to it. This can be demonstrated by the fact that press was already flourished before the rule of King Seongjong. Main factors of media development under his reign were restored cheongyo-jik which had been abolished during King sejo’s era and formation of the usual practice of censorship based on cheongyo-jik. In this situation, yemun-gwan officials could exercise their freedom of press regardless of political circumstances, and this led to free activation of the press.
