방송 저널리즘 프로그램 진행자의 의견 개입에 관한 연구 : <KBS 뉴스 9>, <생방송 시사투나잇>, <추적 60분>의 비교분석

이 연구는 공영방송의 보도, 시사프로그램 진행자가 논쟁적인 사안을 보도할 때 감정표현이나 개인적 의견 개입을 배제하는 기존의 규범에서 벗어나 자신의 가치판단에 따라 가치개입적인 용어를 사용함으로써 한쪽 편을 두둔하는 경향이 있다는 사실에 주목하고 있다. 즉, 연구자는 방송진행자가 어떤 방식 혹은 유형의 진행방식을 통해 가치판단이나 의견을 개입시키고 있는지를 분석했다. 분석결과 특정기간의 방송내용 분석을 통해 세 개의 프로그램이 저널리즘을 실천하고 있는 모습에서 중대한 차이를 발견할 수 있었다. 비록 자료 분석이 제한적이었지만 <KBS 뉴스 9>는 객관 저널리즘의 조건을 비교적 충실히 수행하는 경향을 보인 반면, <생방송 시사투나잇>과 <추적 60분>은 진행자의 주장을 강하게 드러내는 주창 저널리즘을 실천하는 프로그램으로 드러났다. <생방송 시사투나잇>과 <추적 60분>은 중립성, 객관성, 공정성 그리고 갈등사안에 대해 다양한 관점을 균형 있게 보도하기 보다는 제작진가 옳다고 믿는 방향으로 몰아가는 해석을 내리는 경향을 보였다.
Abstract
This study examines how TV newscasters communicate in the various types of news programs, in an attempt to see if there is any difference among them in terms of the degree or extent in which advocacy journalism is practiced. Witnessing that there is a tendency for TV newscasters to insert their value or moral judgement in conveying news information to audience, the author analyzed the patterns of value insertion adopted by newscasters. It was found that while newscasters of conventional evening news program tend to follow the rule of objective journalism, newscasters of late night current affairs program as well as investigative journalism program often insert their political opinion or value when they interpret news, predict the future development of events, present public opinion polls on controversial issues and propose policy recommendations. This analysis of newscaster's way of conducting news programs demonstrates the coexistence of objective journalism and advocacy journalism in the programs made by the public broadcaster, KBS. This also suggests that the news program adopting advocacy journalism is open to the criticism for failing to secure impartiality, if it does not represent both sides involved in controversial matters.
