Abstract
This study investigates migrants’ news media culture and their implications in the rapidly changing digital journalism era. Through qualitatively interviewing 56 Korean migrants living in the US(both in Austin and in Philadelphia), researchers try to capture the implications of migrants’ homeland news media consumption in terms of their transnational everyday life and public connection. As a result, the study finds that the ambient journalism ecosystem supported by new media technology influenced in high increase of homeland news consumption among the migrant population. The study shows that through this process migrants not only negotiated their identity dynamics between the national and transnational but also oriented themselves to public life. In this regard, the study argues that homeland news is central to migrants’ fulfilling transnational lives and functions to bridge migrants’ private worlds, public worlds, and world beyond.
