초록

This paper considers the relationship of Goguryeo and its surrounding countries as well as the view of the world in accordance with it by analysing the ‘Goguryeo Mural’, a representative cultural heritage of Goguryeo, from the perspective of a cultural transfer through international diplomacy of Goguryeo. In case of the Goguryeo Mural, it is a relic that is alive from the period when Goguryeo existed, which makes it a positive evidence of a different level to other relics, therefore it has a cultural value that is over the standard of the many studies based on the literature materials of later generations. In this sense, studying the mural can be said to be satisfying the expectation that we can conjecture the political diplomacy, the religion, the beliefs and the mentality of that times. For Goguryeo Mural, it can be said that the afterlife view is especially different as it appears by the different eras, and for the case of Goguryeo Mural of the 6th– 7thcenturies, it can be said to be com posing a complex view of the world in terms of its contents including Buddhism, Taoism and Five Elements School. Therefore, before discussing the integrated value and the mechanism of the view of Goguryeo Mural on the world, this study purports to analyse the international diplomacy of Goguryeo in relations to the Three States and to China around the 4th– 5thcenturies. This is to estimate the cultural flow of that times as well as because it can show what kind of co-relationship was there interms of the relation of exchanges between the people other than the international exchanges between the states to the creation of the view of Goguryeo on the world. Next, the study is focused on individual comparable analyses around each of the structural (design) meanings for two Goguryeo Murals in Jiban region and two murals in Pyeongyang region that originated in the 6th– 7thcenturies. There are the most relics of Goguryeo Murals but it is also because the regional characters of these regions show the features of the external cultural exchanges. Lastly, based on the interpretation of each structures and drawings, it is proved the common view of the world (view on the afterlife world) between the two regions. The results proves that through such live relic, namely Goguryeo Mural, the integrated view of the world at that time created through cultural exchanges are converted and displayed in the form of an integrated view of the afterlife. Ultimately, through such series of processes, the point that is being proved in this paper is that the diplomatic policies of Goguryeo in the 4th-7thcenturies have in creased the spread and the transfer of their view of the world between countries from a cultural prospective. On the other hand, it is also possible that we can discuss the excellence and the international nature of the culture of Gogureyo from the point that only a high level of cultural refinement can be resulted into the naturalization of foreign culture and its rebirth.
