이 논문은 특히 한말~일제강점기의 항일독립운동에 단군민족주의가 관여하고 기여한 내역을 살피고자 집필되었다. 단군민족주의는 단군의 건국으로부터 민족 공동의 역사가 시작되었다는 단군의 자손의식에 기초하여 민족집단의 정체성을 규정하고 민족적 통일과 자주독립 및 발전을 도모하는 일련의 사조와 운동을 가리킨다. 단군은 근대 한국의 저항민족주의를 지탱해온 정신적 지주의 하나였다고 해도 과언이 아니다. 일제와 맞서 싸우는 일은 자신의 목숨까지 내놓아야 하는 절박한 결단을 요구하고 있었다. 근대 한국 저항민족주의는 민족성원들을 분명한 민족정체성인식으로 무장시키고 자주독립을 위한 투쟁대열에 참여하여 헌신하는 의지를 형성하는 과제를 우선적으로 부여받았다. 긍지 높은 민족의식에 입각하여 민족성원들을 결속시키고 결집된 민족역량을 투쟁대열에로 동원하는 과제에 기능적으로 부응한 것이 바로 단군이었다. 일제침략기를 통하여 조국광복을 위한 민족적 투쟁에너지의 상당부분은 단군을 매개로 해서 단군민족주의의 주도하에 조성되었다. 논문에서는 한국사 속에서 단군민족주의가 전개된 과정을 더듬은 후에, 일제강점기에 전개된 단군민족주의 운동들이 가지는 의의를 항일독립운동과 관련하여 검토하고, 항일독립운동의 전개에 단군민족주의적 상징과 인식이 기여한 바를 분석하고 있다.
Abstract
This paper examines how Dangun-nationalism contributed to Korean anti-Japan independent movements. Dangun-nationalism means the thoughts and movements which persued the ethnical integration and national development under the identity consciousness of Dangun’s decendants. Dangun-nationalism was one of the mental pillars which sustain the Korean resistance nationalism. The activities persuing national independent under Japanese rule were very tiring struggles which even demand individual’s precious life. The priority task of resistance nationalism was to arm the natioal identity and the spirit of independence for the members of nation. It was Dangun who made up the national pride and unite the members of nation. Through the independent movement era the struggle energy for national liberation were made by the initiative and mediation of Dangun-nationalism. Dangun was understood as Korean’s ancestor god who protect Korean nation from foreign invasion. This paper searches the unfolding process of Dangun-nationalism in Korean history and analyzes how it contribute to Korean nationalistic movement against Japanese imperialism.
