Abstract
This study explores the interrelationship between the political attitude of citizens and theirtrust in government. While we examine the existing researches that have dealt with the impactfactors of trust in government among countries, we also discover that there are differentiationsamong them. This study, thus, not only compares the trust in government and its impact factorsof three Scandinavian countries (Denmark, Finland, and Sweden) and three East Asian nations(Korea, China, and Japan), but also comprehends the similarities of impact factors in trustingtheir own government among countries. In addition, this study will depict the characteristicsof the political culture and the political system of the different aforementioned countries. As a result of this study, trust in government has yield positive relationships with policypreference, external political efficacy, politician’s policy preference, general trust, and specifictrust. The study uncovers the general factors that affect trust in government as the existingstudies have presented. In this study, however, it shows that there are significant differencesbetween three Scandinavian countries and three East Asian nations with respect to their trustin government. In addition, this study reveals that the factors affecting trust in governmentvaries country-by-country depending on special cases. These results show that the trust ingovernment should also be considered as a distinctive characteristic of each country togetherwith the general factors affecting trust in government as the existing studies articulate, ratherthan examining how factors influence one specific country in studying trust in government.
