Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine any possible gaps in the psychosocial characteristics and school adjustment levels between adolescents from diverse families and other adolescents from intact families and the impact of their psychosocial characteristics on their levels of school adjustment. Our results were as follows: First, there was no difference on the whole in school adjustment levels between adolescents from divorced families and those from intact families. Second, adolescents from divorced families adjusted themselves better to school when they took a more positive view of the pro‐social characteristics of their peer group, teacher support, their own self‐esteem, and positive parenting behaviors, and those from intact families were better at school adjustment when they looked at teacher support, the pro‐social characteristics of their peer group and positive parenting behaviors in more positive manner.
