Abstract
This study examined the influences of parental psychological control and cognitive emotion regulation on relational aggression amongst middle school students and addressed the question as to whether cognitive emotion regulation had any moderating effect upon the relationship between parental psychological control and relational aggression. The participants of this study consisted of 431 middle school students from three middle schools. The data were analyzed by means of descriptive statistics and hierarchical regressions. The results indicated that the level of parental psychological control of both mothers and fathers and positive emotion regulation of middle school students increased the levels of relational aggression, whereas negative emotion regulation decreased the levels of relational aggression. In addition, negative emotion regulation tended to moderate the effects of parental psychological control on relational aggression whereas positive emotion regulation did not.
