가정, 학교 및 개인변인과 중학생의 학습된 무기력과의 관계

초록

본 연구에서는 중학생을 대상으로 학습된 무기력에 영향을 미치는 가정변인, 학교변인과 개인변인이 학습된 무기력과 어떤 관계를 가지며, 어떤 영향을 미치는지, 그리고 이들이 학습된 무기력에 어떻게 직접, 간접의 효과를 미치는지를 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 가정변인으로 가정의 사회경제적 지위와 가정의 심리적 환경을 고려하고, 학교변인으로는 학교적응과 학교성적을, 개인변인으로는 성과 자아평가를 고려하여 학습된 무기력간의 인과관계를 규명하고자 하였다. 연구대상은 서울 소재 중학교 1, 2학년 학생 289명이었으며, 이들을 대상으로 가정의 심리적 환경, 가정의 사회․경제적 지위, 학교적응, 학교성적, 자아평가와 학습된 무력감을 측정하였다. 가정변인, 학교변인, 개인변인과 학습된 무기력과의 관계분석을 위하여 상관분석, t검증, 중다회귀분석을 하였으며, 결과를 토대로 중학생의 학습된 무기력의 관련변인에 대한 가설모형과 대안모형을 설정하고 검증하였다. 연구결과 가정의 사회경제적 지위는 학습된 무기력과 유의한 관계를 보이지 않았다. 그러나 가정의 심리적 환경과 학교적응, 학교성적, 자아평가는 학습된 무기력과 유의한 부적상관을 나타내었으며, 고집단과 저집단 간에도 학습된 무기력에 있어서 유의한 차이를 보였다. 성별에 따라서는 대체로 유의한 관계가 나타나지 않았다. 학습된 무기력에 유의한 영향력을 미치는 요인들로는 자아평가, 부모-자녀의 관계, 교사와의 관계가 순서대로 유의하게 나타났으며, 최종 대안모형의 경로를 살펴보면 자아평가와 가정의 심리적 환경 변인은 학습된 무기력에 직접적인 영향을 미치며, 가정의 사회경제적 지위와 가정의 심리적 환경, 학교적응, 학교성적은 자아평가를 매개로 하여 학습된 무기력에 간접적인 영향을 주며, 직접적인 영향을 미치지는 않는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 중학생의 학습된 무기력을 통합적으로 조망해 볼 수 있도록 가정, 학교, 개인변인을 설정하여 이들이 학습된 무기력에 영향을 미치는 관계를 상호관계적 측면에서 고려하여 모형을 탐색했다는데 의의가 있다. 이를 통해 가정의 물리적, 심리적 변인과 학교적응과 학업성적, 성, 자아평가와 학습된 무기력과의 관계 및 영향력을 고찰함으로써 중학생의 학교와 가정생활에서의 원만한 적응을 돕고, 학습된 무기력을 예방, 치료하는데 유용한 자료를 제공해 줄 수 있을 것을 논의하였으며, 연구의 제한점과 후속연구를 위한 제언을 하였다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships of home, school, and individual variables to learned helplessness of middle school students. The subject were 289 students middle school students in Seoul. The instruments used in this study were Social Economic Status, Psychological Environment of Home, School Adjustment Scale, Academic Performance, Self-Evaluation Scale, and Learned Helplessness Scale. The major findings of this study were as follows.First, psychological environment of home was negatively related with learned helplessness and social economic status was not significantly related with learned helplessness. There was significant difference of learned helplessness between higher and lower groups in psychological environment of home and no significant difference in social economic status. Second, school adjustment and academic performance were negatively related with learned helplessness. And there were significant differences of learned helplessness between higher and lower groups in school adjustment and academic performance. Third, self-evaluation was negatively related with learned helplessness. There was significant difference of learned helplessness between higher and lower groups in self-evaluation. And there was no significant difference of learned helplessness by sex. Fourth, home, school, individual variables structured the structural model affecting learned helplessness. Self-evaluation and psychological environment of home had direct influences on learned helplessness. And social economic status, psychological environment of home, school adjustment, academic performance had indirect influences on learned helplessness.
