이 연구는 남자청소년의 두려움에 영향을 주는 요인과 여자청소년의 두려움에 영향을 주는 요인이 어떻게 다른지 살펴보고자 한다. 분석결과, 범죄에 대한 두려움 인과모형에서 남․녀 모두 기존의 범죄에 대한 두려움을 설명함에 있어서 주요하게 다루어져 왔던 피해경험과 사회적․물리적 무질서정도가 모두 유의미하게 나타났지만 전통적 성역할의 영향력은 여자청소년에게서만 정적인 관계로 나타났다. 즉, 사회적으로 여성이기 때문에 남성이기 때문에 강요받는 여성다움과 남성다움은 여성에게는 범죄에 대한 두려움의 유발요인으로 작용하고 있음을 보여주는 것이다. 본 연구는 청소년을 대상으로 한 조사 자료를 사용하여 분석함으로써 지금까지 중요하게 다루어 지지 못한 청소년의 범죄에 대한 두려움을 보다 정확하게 파악할 수 있었고 여성의 범죄에 대한 두려움에 있어서 전통적 성역할의 효과를 밝혀 범죄에 대한 두려움을 구성하는 요인에 있어서 성별 차이를 확인하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to test gender difference as a determinant in the fear of crime among adolescents. This study began from the position that relatively little is known about the factors that contribute to adolescent fear of crime. This study found that the predictors of fear among adolescents are similar to those of adults. This research also suggests that male and female adolescent fear is influenced differently. Thus, fear of crime among boys is affected through victimization andincivility. However, fear of crime among girls is affected through victimization, incivility, and gendered sex roles. This is because sex roles appear to be amore important cause among girls when compared to boys. The finding of this study have important implications when it comes to creating prevention programs sincedealing with fear of crime among adolescents obviously requires a gendered approach. Thesefindings also suggest that future research should attempt to diversify the search for the causesof adolescent fear of crime.
