부모의 헬리콥터 양육과 대학생 자녀의 사회적 안녕감의 관계에서 핵심자기평가의 매개효과: 남녀 다집단 분석

초록

본 연구는 성인기 자녀에 대한 과보호 양육행동인 헬리콥터 양육과 대학생 자녀의 사회적 안녕감의 관계를 연구하였다. 구체적으로 어머니와 아버지의 헬리콥터 양육은 대학생 자녀의 사회적 안녕감을 부정적으로 예측하고 이를 핵심자기평가가 매개할 것이라는 가정하였으며, 남녀 간 성차를 확인하였다. 전국 505명의 대학생을 대상으로 설문을 실시하여 구조방정식으로 연구모형을 검증하였고 다집단분석으로 성차 검증을 하였다. 그 결과 모의 헬리콥터 양육은 핵심자기평가를 매개로 사회적 안녕감을 유의하게 부적으로 예측하였으나 부의 헬리콥터 양육은 사회적 안녕감에 대한 직접효과만 나타났다. 독립표본 t 검증에서 남녀가 지각하는 헬리콥터 양육 수준의 차이가 없었고, 다집단 분석 결과 부모의 성별과 자녀 성별의 상호작용이 발견되었다. 모의 헬리콥터 양육과 핵심자기평가의 경로에서 성차가 나타나, 남성 집단의 경우 여성 집단에 비해 모 헬리콥터 양육이 핵심자기평가에 미치는 부적 효과가 더 큰 것으로 밝혀졌다. 또한 남성 집단의 경우 여성 집단과 달리 부의 헬리콥터 양육이 핵심자기평가에 이르는 경로가 유의한 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 부모의 헬리콥터 양육이 대학생 자녀의 사회적 기능에 부정적이며, 이 부정적 효과는 특히 아들에게서 더 두드러짐을 확인하였다. 또한 자기평가의 상위개념인 핵심자기평가로 부모의 양육이 대학생 자녀의 사회적 안녕감에 미치는 효과를 설명하여, 성인 진입기 자녀 양육에 대한 인식을 제고하였다. 마지막으로 남녀 성별에 따른 양육효과와 사회적 개입의 필요성을 논의하며, 후속연구를 제안하였다.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the relationship between helicopter parenting and the social well-being of young adult children. The mediating effect of core self-evaluation and analyzed gender differences were also examined. A total of five hundred and five undergraduate student respondents competed surveys. We found that maternal and paternal helicopter parenting had different implications for their children’s social well-being; Children’s core self-evaluation mediated the link between maternal helicopter parenting and children’s social well-being. Nevertheless, paternal helicopter parenting only had a direct negative effect on children’s social well-being. We also found a number of interesting gender differences. The negative effect of maternal helicopter parenting on children's core self-evaluation was found to be significantly stronger among males. Furthermore, a negative effect of paternal helicopter parenting on core self evaluation was also only significant among males. We confirmed that whilst it was clear that helicopter parenting was harmful for both daughters and sons, the degree of these negative effects could be even more harmful for sons.
