Abstract
The purpose of this study was to classify latent profiles based on multicultural competences and socio-contextual resources of adolescents from multicultural families, and to test for the effects of age, gender, and parenting style in determining the latent classes. We also examined whether there were any differences in life satisfaction, academic achievement, and acculturative stress according to the latent classes. We used 360 participants who had responded to all survey items from the 3rd year data of the 2nd panel of the Multicultural Adolescents Panel Study (MAPS). The result of a latent profile analysis showed 4 latent classes; a low resource group, an average resource group, a high resource/ positive multicultural acceptability perception group, and a high resource/ negative multicultural acceptability perception group. 3STEP methods were used to test the effects of predictor variables in determining latent classes and to examine any differences in outcome variables, depending on latent classes. The results showed that adolescents’ ages, parents’ abandonment, and parents’ supervision were significant determinants of the latent profiles. Classes differed in terms of life satisfaction, academic achievement and acculturative stress of adolescents. This study highlighted the importance of socio-contextual variables in understanding the quality of life of multicultural adolescents.
