초록

The purpose of this study is to investigate the language-universal and language-specific phenomena of phonotactic structure in English double onsets, and analyze the phonotactics of the double onsets through the sonority-related constraint and agreement constraint including complementary reranking construction based on the Optimality Theory. The sequence of obstruent+sonorant and /s/+consonant can be properly explained by the constraint ranking C1〈C2[son] ≫*AGREE(place)≫AGREE(place), while complementary distribution of the phonemic arrangement between double onsets [sC] and [ʃC] which are attributed to the place of articulation and assimilation can be language-specifically analyzed by the reranked constraints C1〈C2[son]≫AGREE(place)≫*AGREE(place). For the phonotactic relation of the onset sequence /s+stop/ which violates the Sonority Sequencing Principle, it could be needed to be reanalyzed with the unmarkedness depending on an extraprosodic element of /s/ in a prosodic representation.
