We find the symbolic defect and the Waldschmidt constant of a general star configuration in $\P^n$, and find the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularities of the symbolic powers of a general star configuration and a $\k$-configuration in $\P^n$. As an application, we study the lower and upper bound for the resurgence, and {Chudnovsky type} and {Demailly type} conjectures for a star configuration in $\P^n$.
