Abstract
This study attempted to present the most appropriate light conditions of Myrica rubra. The light-shading treatment was divided into 0%(control), 35%, 50%, and 75%, and after growing for six months, growth performance, leaf shape characteristics, and photosynthetic pigment content were investigated. The relative growth rate of the height was the highest in the 35% light-shading treatment and the lowest in the control, but the stem and root dry weight were the highest in the control and the lowest in the 75% light-shading treatment. The number of branches was also the highest in the control, and the 55% light-shading treatment was the least. The leaves of M. rubra were the smallest and thickest in the control, and the leaf area widened with an increase in the light-shading rate, and the thickness decreased. Chlorophyll a, b, and total chlorophyll content were highest in the 35% light-shading treatment and lowest in the 75% light-shading treatment. The carotenoid content was highest in the control and lowest in the 75% light-shading treatment. Therefore, it is judged that the appropriate light conditions for the M. rubra are the most appropriate to have less chlorophyll destruction and 35% light-shading conditions that can sustain stem growth and biomass.
