유학생의 논설문 헤지 표현(hedges) 연구

본 연구는 한국의 대학교에서 수학하고 있는 외국인 학부 유학생들이 산출한 논설문에 나타난 헤지 표현(hedges)의 사용 양상을 살펴보고 교육적인 함의를 찾는 데에목적이 있다. 또한, 기존 선행연구들에 나타난 헤지 표현의 개념과 특징을 정리하면서 선행연구들에 거의 공통적으로 나타난 두 가지 부분을 보완하고자 시작되었다. 첫째, 한국어교육 관련 헤지 표현 관련 연구는 대학원생의 학술적 텍스트를 분석하는데 치중하였으나 다양한 학습자의 다양한 글쓰기에서의 헤지 표현 연구가 필요하다. 둘째, 헤지 표현과 부스터 표현(boosters)을 구분하지 않은 연구들이 많은데 각 표현의 기능이 다르므로 반드시 구분되어야 한다. 논설문에 나타난 헤지 표현을 ‘투영 동사, 투영 동사 복합 형식, 인식 양태 표현, 시상 표현’의 네 부분으로 나누어 외국인 유학생의 헤지 표현 사용 양상과 중간언어적특성을 분석하였다. 그 결과를 선행연구와 비교하여 외국인 유학생의 헤지 표현인식과 실제 산출의 모습을 비교하여 앞으로의 교육적 처치에 대해 논의하였다
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the use of hedges in a persuasive writing by foreign undergraduate students studying at universities in Korea and to find educational implications. In addition, the concepts and characteristics of hedges shown in prior studies are summarized. And it was started to supplement two parts that appeared almost in common in prior studies. First, the studies on hedges related to Korean language education focused on analyzing academic text of graduate students, but the studies on hedges in various writing of various learners is needed. Second, there are many studies that do not distinguish between hedges and boosters, but the functions of each expression are different, so it must be distinguished. In this study, the hedges in the persuasive writing was divided into four parts: 'projective verbs, composite forms of projective verbs, epistemic modality expressions, tense-aspect expressions', and the pattern of foreign students' use of hedges and interlanguage characteristics were analyzed. The results were compared with prior studies, and the recognition of hedges and actual output of foreign students were compared to discuss future educational measures.
