Abstract
The present paper suggests to look at the peace issues from a feminist perspective that questions the absence of the voices of women in militarized constructions and that attempts to see Militarization as daily occurrence practiced during peace time. Militarization is a process in which the military rules are close to regulatory rules in daily life, relying on the notion of masculinity and feminity under premise that gender relations and identities are constructed in the discourse of militarism. In this process, men are benefited with citizenship because they are considered as a subject of the national security, while women are excluded and discriminated in hierarchical construction of the nation. The paper consists of three parts. The first part briefly but critically examines the traditional concept of Militarization/Militarism with an introduction of the feminist theories. The second part explores how people get mobilized for and participate in the process of Militarization by reviewing the experience of 1970s in the militarized society. The third part analyzes conscription system as an example of the ideological mechanisms for such mobilization and participation. Then this study concludes that for demilitarization it is essential to enhance the peace sensitivity in the daily life and to empower women as the subject of peace movement.
