브라질 포르투갈어 계사구문은 주어와 서술 형용사가 서로 일치하지 않으면서도 문법적인 문장으로 여겨지는 특별한 구조다. 본 연구에서는 주어-서술 형용사의 불일치를 일치의 오류나 일치의 부재로 보지 않고 무표적 일치가 일어났다고 본다, 자료의 관찰에 따르면, 무표적 일치가 일어나는 경우 주어가 총체적인 의미로 해석되는 경향이 있다. 본 연구는 통사적인 관점에서 이 현상을 설명하고자한 선행연구들과는 달리 주어의 의미 차이에 초점을 맞춰 의미, 통사적인 관점에서 설명을 하고 있다.
Abstract
The copular construction of Brazilian Portuguese is very unique in that it allows, grammatically, morphological disagreement between the subject and its predicative adjective. This paper proposes firstly that the disagreement in question is in fact unmarked agreement and secondly that semantic differences on subject NPs determine the type of agreement of predicative adjective whether marked or unmarked. According to this paper, generic reading of subject NP triggers unmarked agreement in forms of semantic agreement inside SC. The interpretation of generic reading, however, is dependent of many variables. In this paper, we use the form and position of NP to distinguish two types of meanings: generic and existential meaning. The approach explored here in terms of syntactic and semantic theories provides wider explanation than previous researches.
