Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) may often feature the correlated traffic issued by several bio sensors. Correlated traffic implies that an emergency reporting event in WBAN requires all related information from various sensors to be delivered to the coordinator simultaneously, which is resulting in increase the network congestion level in a short time duration. If a contention based channel access scheme is applied, a significant amount of overhead incurs during channel sensing and contention resolution processes. A new Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol that can allow accesses to the channel from the correlated nodes without any individual contention resolution process could achieve higher performance. In this paper, by simply upgrading random channel access mechanism specified in the recently proposed IEEE 802.15.6 WBAN standard, we present a new channel access scheme that is capable of handling correlated traffic in WBAN. We derive expressions for achievable performance analysis and thereby present performance evaluation in terms of throughput and delay.
