Common causes of secondary eosinophilia are parasite infection, allergic disorders, medications, toxins, autoimmune diseases, endocrine disorders and malignancies. Among them, toxocariasis is a rare parasite infection which raises eosinophil count and can cause multiple organ dysfunctions including cerebral infarction. The mechanisms of cerebral infarction associated with toxocariasis are a controversial issue. We report a case of multiple cerebral infarctions in a patient with toxocariasis infection and secondary hypereosinophilia.
Abstract
Common causes of secondary eosinophilia are parasite infection, allergic disorders, medications, toxins, autoimmune diseases, endocrine disorders and malignancies. Among them, toxocariasis is a rare parasite infection which raises eosinophil count and can cause multiple organ dysfunctions including cerebral infarction. The mechanisms of cerebral infarction associated with toxocariasis are a controversial issue. We report a case of multiple cerebral infarctions in a patient with toxocariasis infection and secondary hypereosinophilia.
