Abstract
Purpose: This study aims to classify patterns of activity limitation among people with disabilities from a functional perspective and to analyze how these influence latent types influence employment status and the demand for employment services. Method: Using data from the 2020 Panel Survey of Employment for the Disabled (5th round), this study conducted Latent Profile Analysis (LPA) to identify typologies of activity limitation, followed by logistic regression and correspondence analysis. Results: Four profiles of activity limitations were identified: “Mild Limitation Type,” “Visual and Mobility Limitation Type,” “Hearing and Communication Limitation Type,” and “Severe Multidimensional Limitation Type.” Using the “Mild Limitation Type” as a reference, all other types except the “Hearing and Communication Limitation Type” showed significantly lower employment probabilities, with the “Visual and Mobility Limitation Type” having the lowest likelihood of employment. Furthermore, each type exhibited different demands for employment services. The “Severe Multidimensional Limitation Type” showed a high demand for disability-specialized employment services; the “Hearing and Communication Limitation Type” required accommodations such as sign language interpretation or real-time captioning during recruitment; and the “Mild Limitation Type” expressed a need for job information and recruitment initiatives targeted at persons with disabilities. Conclusion: This study suggests that function-based typologies of activity limitations, reflecting both severity and domain-specific combinations, can serve as a practical foundation for developing tailored employment support policies. It also recommends that employment support should be centered on the actual activity limitations experienced in daily life, rather than solely on disability type or severity.
