위대한 복음의 전파자였으며 위대한 신학자였던 아더 T. 피어선 박사(A. T. Pierson)의 성경연구 원리를 연구하는 것이 본 연구의 목적이다. 피어선 박사의 생애를 먼저 소개하고 그의 성경관 그리고 성경연구 원리를 제시하였다. 논문의 초반부는 언더우드와 관계를 통해 한국에 오게된 역사적 기록을 소개했다. 피어선의 생애를 통하여 그가 성경을 어떻게 사랑하고 연구하고 가르쳤으며 그가 주장한 성경연구 원리가 무엇인가를 보여 주고 있다. 그는 성경에서 신학의 원리를 찾았고 그 원리를 통하여 성경을 연구하며 해석했다. 피어선은 성경 연구에 있어서 성경은 영감되었고 권위가 있으며 신적인 의지가 반영된 것을 우리가 먼저 인정해야함을 제시하였다. 이 전제는 성경 자체의 특성에 관한 중요 진리를 인식하는 것이 성경 연구에 있어서 필수적이라고 본 것이다. 피어선은 성경을 연구하는 태도에 있어서 진지함, 정직함 그리고 초자연적인 요소를 의심없이 받아들이는 것이 하나님의 말씀 앞에서 당연한 것이고 그런 사람들에게 하나님의 말씀은 문을 연다고 한다. 피어선은 탐구와 명상, 비교, 기도, 믿음, 그리고 순종에 의해 우리가 성경의 저자가 하나님이라는 것을 볼 수 있다고 한다. 우리가 성경연구를 통하여 하나님을 드러내고, 밝히며, 높이며, 영광스럽게 할 의무가 있다고 한다. 그는 성경이 하나님의 말씀이라는 확고한 신념을 가지고 성경을 깊이 있게 연구함으로써 그의 목회사역과 선교사역을 감당함으로써 미국과 영국뿐만 아니라 한국까지 크게 영향을 주었다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the principles of Biblical Study of Dr. Arthur T. Pierson, a great evangelist, a great theologian, appeared in the study of the Bible. I first introduced Dr. Pierson's career and presented his view of the Bible and theological principles. In the beginning of this thesis from the historical documents I introduced how A. T. Pierson came to Korea through the relationship with Underwood. Through the life of Pierson I showed how he loved, studied, and taught the Bible, and what his claiming principles were. He found the principles of theology at the Bible, through the principles interpreted the Bible. He proposed that in the study of the Bible we first should recognize the inspiration of it, its authority and the reflection of divine will. He understood that this presupposition is essential to study the Bible to recognize the important truth about the Characteristics of the Bible itself. In the study of the Bible he pointed out that we should have an attitude of sincerity, honesty, and the undoubted acceptance of the supernatural elements before the Word of God so that it opens the door to these people. Pierson argued we could see that God is the author of the Bible by investigation and meditation, comparison, prayer, faith, and obedience. Pierson suggested through Bible study, that we have the obligation to honor, reveal, praise, glorify God. By the deep study of the Bible with his firm belief that the Bible is the Word of God he served his pastoral ministry and missions, and had a great influence upon the United States and England, and Korea.
