Abstract

Recently, as the demand for carbon-neutral and eco-friendly technologies has increased, the demand for related technologies is also increasing in Korea. Therefore, in this study, an inorganic binder was developed using low-quality high-calcium fly ash from CFBC boilers with high waste volume, and its utilization was evaluated through material property tests and field applicability estimation. The developed inorganic binder is typically a blend of Portland cement (OPC), slag powder (SP), and low-grade high-calcium fly ash (CF), which reduces the amount of cement usage by 70%, with low-grade high-calcium fly ash (CF) accounting for 20% of the total weight. The chemical composition of the inorganic binder is similar to that of OPC, and it satisfies all the KS standards for cement substitutes, including fineness, autoclave expansion, and setting time. The environmental impact assessment showed that it is harmless to the environment. In addition, the field test results showed that the binder meets the required strength for typical soil mixing methods, and the field permeability of the binder satisfied the requirements for water-resistant grout, demonstrating its potential for use as a solidification material in soil improvement.
