유초 연계성 측면에서의 미국 유치원과 초등학교 교육과정 내용 분석

본 연구는 유초 연계성 측면에서 미국의 유치원과 초등학교 교육과정 내용을 분석함으로써 향후 우리나라 유아교육과정과 초등학교 교육과정 개정 시 구체적인 기초자료와 시사점을 제공하는데 목적이 있다. 연구의 목적 달성을 위하여 미국 메릴랜드 주 몽고메리 카운티의 교육과정인 Curriculum 2.0의 유치원과 초등학교 교육과정인 ‘초등통합 교육과정(Elementary Integrated Curriculum Framework)’의 각 영역별 구성과 세부 내용을 중심으로 분석하였다. 유치원과 초등학교의 교육과정 내용 연계성 분석 준거는 타일러(Tyler)의 교육내용 조직원리인 계속성, 계열성, 통합성을 사용하였다. 세 가지 준거를 기초로 하여 유치원과 초등학교 교육과정 내용이 어떻게 실제적으로 연계를 이루고 있는지 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 미국 메릴랜드 주의 유치원과 초등학교 교육과정 내용은 다양한 측면에서 연계성을 나타내고 있었다. 첫째, 미국 유치원과 초등학교 교육과정 내용은 학년 수준이 올라가면서 동일한 교육내용 요소들이 지속적으로 제시되는 계속성을 나타내고 있었다. 둘째, 교육과정 내용이 동일한 교육 내용이 점차적으로 심화되고 확장됨으로써 학습자의 지속적인 성장발달을 도모하는 계열성을 나타내고 있었다. 셋째, 교육과정 내용이 다른 영역이나 활동 간에 교육과정 요소들을 통합하며 수평적으로 연결시키는 통합성을 나타내고 있었다. 이와 같은 교육과정 분석 결과를 기초로 하여, 우리나라의 누리과정과 초등학교 교육과정의 연계성 증진 방안으로, 다양하고 체계적인 연구결과를 반영한 교육과정 구성, 교육과정 개정 시 유아교육기관과 초등학교 공동개발 협의회 구성, 유아·초등 교사들의 활발한 교류 확대를 위해 다양한 연수 및 장학 프로그램 등 적극적인 의사소통과 교육의 기회제공을 제안하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this research is to analyze the articulation between kindergarten and elementary school curriculum based on curriculum articulation in the United States and then offer the implication and fundamental data for curriculum articulation when revising kindergarten and elementary curriculum in South Korea. For this research, ‘Elementary Integrated Curriculum Framework’ in Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland in the United States of America was analysed by the principles of contents organization in curriculum of Tyler: continuity, sequence, and integration. The analysis results of research are as followings. First, the contents of kindergarten and elementary curriculum show continuity. The contents of both curriculums are emphasized although grade-level has changed. Second, the contents of kindergarten and elementary curriculum show sequence. The contents of two curriculum are deepen and expand by grade-level goes up. Both curriculums enhance continuous growth and development of children in the school. Third, the contents of kindergarten and elementary curriculum show integration. The contents domains of two curriculums are connected and integrated horizontally. Based on the results of this research, meaningful improvement ways for curriculum articulation between kindergarten and elementary school are suggested.
