본 연구는 노부모에 대한 여성의 책임이 강한 한국적 상황에서 중고령 아들 부양자가 노부모를 부양하면서 겪는 부양 경험의 본질을 파악하기 위해 시작되었다. 노부모 부양 경험이 있거나 현재 부양을 담당하고 있는 5~60대 중고령 아들 부양자를 대상으로 그들의 노부모 부양경험은 어떠한 것들이 있는지, 어떠한 의미를 지니는지 살펴보는데 연구의 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 짧게는 3개월에서 길게는 8년 동안 노부모 부양을 하고 있는 5~60대의 중고령 아들 부양자 5명을 대상으로 심층면담을 통해 자료수집을 하였고, 질적연구방법의 하나인 Colaizzi의 현상학적 방법으로 분석하였다. 그 결과, 중고령 아들이 노부모를 부양하면서 겪는 일련의 경험들에 관한 의미 있는 문장들을 추출 하고 이에 대한 의미의 형성과 주제묶음을 통해 반복적으로 고찰을 하여 의미 있는 문장 총 317개, 형성된 의미 103개, 소주제 20개, 본질주제 6개를 도출하였다. 본질적 주제는 <‘아들’이 부양을 한다는 것>, <양지(養志)로서의 부양>, <늙어버린 부모를 바라보는 애처로움>, <숭숭 뚫린 가슴>, <마음으로 붙잡고 있는 부모>, <부양을 하면서 알게 된 것들>의 여섯 가지로 나타났다.
Abstract
This study was started to identify the core of caregiving experience of a middle aged son or older in a Korean context where traditionally the woman's responsibility for elderly parents is heavier. Middle aged sons in their 50s or 60s who were caregivers of their parents or who had such experience were used as subject in this study. The goal of the study is to review their experience of taking care of elderly parents and what it means for them. For the purpose of this, this study made a data collection through an in-depth interview oriented to 5 middle and old aged people who are supporting their elderly parents during the period from 3 months to 8 years, and carried out Colaizzi's method of phenomenological analysis, one of the qualitative research methods. The meaningful sentences about the experiences of the middle and old aged sons supporting the elderly parents are extracted, and they are reviewed repeatedly through the formation of the meanings and the thematic bundles, and a total of 317 meaningful sentences, 103 meaning, and six essential themes. Six essential themes were “the fact of supporting as a ‘son’”, “supporting as an entertainer of parents”, “piteousness while looking at their aged parents”, “a heart with a big hole of emptiness”, “parents who are seized by heart of sons” and “facts learned through supporting them”.
