신입 구급대원의 현장경험에 대한 현상학적 연구

이 연구에서는 초임 구급대원(소방공무원)의 경험을 현상학의 연구방법으로 살펴보았다. 연구에 참여한 사람은 재직기간 1년 6개월 미만인 구급대원 6명이었으며, 이들과 1시간에서 1시간 반 정도씩 1~2회의 면담을 실시하였다. 연구 자료는 Colaizzi의 질적 자료 분석 방법을 사용하여 분석하였다. 연구 결과 초임 구급대원의 경험은 다양한 어려움과 보람으로 규정되며, 그런 경험을 요약하는 주제들은 다음의 일곱 가지로 요약되었다: 주 처치자로서의 부담감, 직무에 대한 책임감, 구급출동의 두려움, 현장경험과 직무능력 부족, 열악한 근무환경, 교육(코칭) 받을 기회 부족, 구급활동에 대한 인정. 이런 결과에 기초하여 어려움을 해결하기 위한 대책으로 인력 보충, 1급 응급구조사와 일정 기간 근무하기, 정례적 심리상담, 인사이동 없이 일정 기간 근무하기 등이 제안되었다. 이 연구결과는 초임 구급대원으로서의 적응이 외롭고 지난한 과정이며, 심리적 부담이 커서 이들을 돕는 다양한 대책이 시급함을 보여주었고, 인력보충과 심리상담 외에도 직무 교육, 멘토링 등이 필요함을 시사하였다.
Abstract
This research explored the experiences of the newly-appointed fire fighters (paramedics) through phenomenological research. For the research, six paramedics who had less than one and a half years of experience were interviewed. Interviews lasted one to one and a half hours. Colaizzi’s method was used for data analysis. As results, the themes that summarize the experiences of beginning paramedics were found as follow: burden as a main paramedics, responsibility on the job, fear of dispatch, lack of experience and ability in first aid, poor working condition, lack of opportunity to get coaching, and finding one’s worth. For the solution, it was suggested that beginning paramedics work with the first-rate emergency personnel during the 1st year, regular psychological counseling, and work without personnel movement for certain period of time. The results of this research show that the adaptation as a paramedic is difficult and lonely process and the stress caused by this process is big. In addition, it suggests the necessity of mento, counseling to look for psychological difficulties, and various education to improve job ability.
