본 연구의 목적은 학습일지의 활용이 영어학습에 미치는 영향을 메타분석을 통해 통합적으로 살펴보는 것이다. 이를 위해 27개의 연구물에 수록된 83개의 개별 연구 사례를 수집하였고, 각 사례에 대한 개별 효과크기와 전체 평균 효과크기를 산출하여 학습일지 활용이 영어 학습에 미치는 효과를 살펴보았다. 또한 연구대상, 실험 기간, 피드백 유무, 학습일지의 종류 등과 같은 조절변인과 영어능력, 정의적 영역, 자기주도적 학습능력 등의 종속변인을 설정한 후 각 변인 별 평균 효과크기를 산출함으로서 각 변인에 따라 학습일지 활용 영어교육의 효과의 차이가 있는지 검증하였다. 분석 결과 학습일지 활용 영어교육은 중간 수준의 평균 효과크기(d=.594)를 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 한편 설정한 조절변인과 종속변인별 평균 효과크기를 비교해 보았을 때 통계적으로 유의한 수준의 차이는 발견되지 않았다. 마지막으로 연구 결과를 근거로 학습일지 활용 영어교육의 교육적 함의와 후속 연구를 위한 제언을 논의하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this present study is to find out the overall effects of utilizing learning journal on Korean students’ English language learning. 83 individual research findings in 27 articles were collected, and a meta-analysis was implemented to synthesize the results of these studies by calculating the mean effect sizes. This study reviewed and analyzed according to various variables such as school types, treatment periods, whether the feedback was given, types of learning journal, types of dependent variable, and so on. The results are as follows: first, the mean effect size of writing English learning journals is .594, which means the medium effects in general. Second, no statistically significant differences were found among various moderators and dependent variables, so diverse types of English language instruction using English learning journal can expect the similar results. Finally, pedagogical implications based on the research findings and suggestions for further research are also discussed.
