본 연구는 DEA기법을 이용하여 2003년도 국내 20개 제약회사의 광고효율성을 기술효율성 TE, 순수기술효율성 PTE, 규모효율성 SE로 분리하여 측정함과 동시에 규모의 경제를 분석하였다. 투입요소로는 TV광고비, Radio광고비, 신문, 잡지광고비 그리고 산출물로는 매출을 이용하였다. 측정결과에 의하면 CRS 가정아래서 광고비의 비효율은 33.67%에 달하고 있으며, 순수기술의 비효율보다는 규모의 비효율이 더 크다는 것을 확인하였다. 투입요소들을 보다 더 효율적으로 이용하기 위해서는 규모의 경제를 분석하는 것이 중요하다. 따라서 본 연구는 비효율적인 DMU들은 투입요소를 축소하는 대신에 IRS에 있는 DMU들은 광고비를 증가시킴에 의하여 광고효율성을 제고할 수 있음을 보여주었다.
Abstract
The objective of this study is to investigate the advertising efficiency of 20 Korean pharmaceutical companies in 2003 by Data Envelopment Analysis. The technical efficiency is decomposed into pure efficiency change and scale efficiency. Our DEA model includes three inputs-TV advertising expense, radio advertising expense, newspaper and magazine advertising expense, and one output - sales. The technical inefficiency averages about 33.67%. The results show that the main source of the inefficiency is scale rather than technical. In addition, return to scale is an important factor that helps to better utilize inputs. This paper focuses on return to scale to explore the alternatives to reducing inefficient inputs
