사내 기업가정신과 성과 간의 비선형 관계: 흡수역량의 조절효과

초록

본 연구는 사내 기업가정신이 기업의 성과에 미치는 역 U자형의 비선형 효과를 분석하는 것을 목적으로 하고 있다. 아울러 이러한 사내 기업가정신의 성과 체감효과를 완화시키는 경계조건으로서 기업의 내부역량인 흡수역량의 역할에 대해 살펴본다. 사내 기업가정신 관련 문헌에 근거하여 가설을 설정하고 국내 중소벤처기업을 대상으로 수집된 총 234개의 자료를 바탕으로 실증분석을 실시한 결과, 사내 기업가정신과 성과 간에는 역 U자형의 비선형 관계가 존재하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 흡수역량의 조절효과를 검증한 결과, 중소벤처기업의 흡수역량은 사내 기업가정신과 상호작용함으로써 사내 기업가정신의 성과 체감효과를 완화시키는 차원을 넘어 체증하는 효과로 그 양상을 변환시키는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 중소벤처기업에 있어 적정 수준의 사내 기업가정신을 강조하는 것이 필요함을 보여주는 동시에 흡수역량 확보의 중요성을 시사해주고 있다.

Abstract

The study aims to examine an inverted U-shaped relationship between corporate entrepreneurship and firm performance. A particular focus is on the moderating effect of absorptive capacity as a boundary condition which helps curtail a decrease in performance. Building on literature regarding corporate entrepreneurship, hypotheses are developed and tested using data collected from 234 small and medium-sized firms. Results show that corporate entrepreneurship has a nonlinear effect on the performance. Absorptive capacity is found to play a moderating role in the relationship, indicating that the variable is crucial for increasing beyond merely easing a decline in profits by interacting with corporate entrepreneurship. The findings imply that the extent to which the firms boost corporate entrepreneurship should be managed with care and more emphasis needs to be placed on the development of absorptive capacity.
