Abstract

This study examined trends in Chinese and Japanese research on the Korean War since 2020. Chinese research outcomes can be categorized into five types. First, research that had been ongoing even before 2020: studies on the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid North Korea (ideology) and key figures. Second, battles assessed as victories for China. Third, critiques of films and dramas related to the Korean War. Fourth, papers on regional and personal experiences within China. Finally, papers on other topics, including those condemning the U.S. for biological warfare and nuclear weapons, Soviet aid to China, and Taiwan.Japanese research outcomes, unlike China's, do not show a consistent pattern. This is because China, as a socialist nation, directly participated in the Korean War, whereas Japan provided support to the Allied side.Individual papers from Japanese academia include the following: First, research on mobilized personnel during the Korean War. Second, a study on the motivations of second-generation Japanese Americans serving in the Korean War. Third, content regarding blackout regulations in Japan during the Korean War. Fourth, research on the peace movement of Japanese teachers' unions and the Korean War. Finally, research on the United Nations Command's use of media during the Korean War.Research within Chinese academia since 2020 has included many topics previously studied. However, papers evaluating battles of the Korean War that contradict historical facts have begun to appear. Furthermore, papers on topics internationally proven erroneous, such as biological warfare, continue to be published. The Japanese academic community, not being a direct combatant nation, covers a wide range of research topics.
