This study analyzed the effect of smart farm expansion on price level and volatility using a panel model in a situation where the expansion of smart farm distribution is discussed as an important alternative for stabilizing agricultural product supply and price due to climate change. The main results are as follows. First, the ratio of smart farm cultivation area had a negative (-) effect on the nominal and real prices of agricultural products, but it was not statistically significant. This suggests that, in a limited way, the expansion of smart farms can lower prices due to an oversupply of agricultural products. Second, the expansion of smart farm cultivation area did not have a statistically significant effect on price volatility, and the sign of the estimated coefficient was positive (+), which suggests that, in a limited way, the expansion of smart farms may not play a positive role in stabilizing agricultural product prices, or may even have a negative effect. Third, there is a view that the expansion of smart agriculture is a ‘all-round troubleshooter’ for the problem of climate change, but the results of the price level and volatility of representative smart farm items such as strawberries, tomatoes, and paprika, and the yield repeatedly increased and decreased, suggest that the expansion of smart agriculture cannot be a all-round troubleshooter for the problem of climate change.
