Abstract

The purpose of this article is to explore militarys comand structure of the North Korean Army in war and peace times. North Koreas Supreme Peoples Assembly established the Supreme Headquarters of the North Korean Army and appointed Kim, Il-Sung as the Supreme Commander of the North Korean Army on July 4, 1950. On December 24 1991, Kim Chong-il was appointed as new Supreme Commander of the North Korean Army. Korean Army has responsibilities and authorities in war and peace times. In peacetime, the Chairman of the National Defense Commission has the powers to command and control all military forces of North Korea. Therefore, the comander takes a role to support the Workers' Party Central Military Committee and Chairman of the National Defense Commission. He is also a representative of the North Korean Army. In wartime, the Supreme Commander has the powers to comand all military forces of North Korea, and takes charge of al military operations. The Party and the Chairman of the National Defense Commission take roles to guarantee Supreme Commanders right of command. The Comander has a right to appoint marshals by himself and to declare a state of warfare.
