Abstract
The aim of this study is to examine the spatial features of commuting pattern in the case of Seoul Metropolitan Region(SMR) between 1995 and 2005. A key question of this study is about the pattern of commuting flows (distance, time, and patterns by mode of transport) which reflect the degree of job-housing spatial separation. The main findings are as follows:First, the commuting pattern of Seoul proves that a balance of jobs and housing in Seoul was improved as shown by shorter commuting time and distance. Second, the balance between jobs and housing for workers who work and reside in Inchoen and Gyunggi Province also showed improvements in shorter commuting time and distance. Third, on the contrary, the balance between jobs and housing for those residing in Incheon or Gyunggi Province and work in Seoul became worse by showing longer commuting time and distance.
