The nonlinear relationship between the explanatory variable and the dependent variable causes difficulties in the interpretation of the estimated parameters. Therefore, after estimating the model, it is necessary to investigate the reality of nonlinearity through additional research to confirm whether the effects of explanatory variables such as traffic volume and UV on ozone concentration conform to the theory. This argument was raised during the review of the author's 2021 paper but was not fully dealt with in detail because of page limitations. The purpose of this study is to investigate the nonlinearity of the ozone-traffic model to confirm whether the estimated explanatory variables are consistent with the ozone generation theory. The ozone model was differentiated for each explanatory variable, and the influence of each variable was identified. The ozone model was differentiated for each explanatory variable, and the influence of each variable was identified. In general, traffic plays a negative role in ozone concentration, and in the case of UV rays, it has a positive effect. As a result of finding the derivative and elasticity of explanatory variables, the positive and negative effects of ozone generation were different depending on the conditions. Therefore, when interpreting the effects of explanatory variables in a model in which nonlinearity exists, it is necessary to be cautious in differentiating and verifying the effects of each variable.
