Abstract
This study searched reappearance aspect of violence which appeared in japanesepostwar literature focusing on the Endo Syusaku’s literature. In Endo Syusaku’s literature which were published in 1950s when awareness oferasing memories of war spread with the air of trusting brightness and progresssymbolized as postwar democracy and 1960s when antiwar movements increased andhistorical view of avoiding responsibility for war about Asia appeared, it consideredhow the problem of ‘violence’ appeared concretely. Literary works like To Aden, The Sea and Poison, Ryugaku, Silence reenact thememory of violence at the time of ‘postwar’ when the memory of war was gettingerased. By suggesting problems of social, cultural, racial and ideological conflictrelation, action of power and hegemony and discrimination and struggle, they awakenour closed and abusive attitude. Reenacting the history is a work of looking back the present through the past. Endo Syusaku’s works which pursue the communication with other people, payingattention to excluded person in the history and neglected weak person in the orderof the strong, try to overcome the human’s limitation of not being able to get outfrom the state of violence not only at the time of publication but also up to now. They provide opportunity of introspecting our present situation in which violenceslike war, civil war, terror happen constantly because of egoism which doesn’t listento other's appeal and insists themself is right.
