제주도 중 · 고등학생을 위한 효과적인 영어교육 프로그램의 운영 -영어캠프 실천 사례를 중심으로-

Abstract

This paper aims to examine why and how the English camp for middle and high school students in Jeju-do has been designed and developed at Foreign Language Institute, Cheju National University. This study also deals with the contents of the English camp program which are activity-centered, and then analyzes the students' responses to the general evaluation of the English camp and finally makes some suggestions to improve the next English camp. The two-week English camp administered by Foreign Language Institute during the winter vacation was very meaningful in that it was an intensive immersion program for Jeju-do students and that it was an enrichment program as one of the gifted and talented education programs. The students were intensively trained to listen, speak, read and write only in English, by learning English with native speakers of English, and by living in the university dormitory. Almost all of them strongly agreed or agreed that their English communication skills improved through the camp and that the camp met their expectations.
