Abstract

English Blend words are fascinating due to their highly productive and systematic combining patterns. The purpose of this paper is to account for general combining patterns of English blends as well as the ordering mechanisms between two base words. The analysis presented here is different from the previous studies, in that one of the largest corpora of English blends is used to reveal coherent, structural properties of English blending. The corpus has been compiled by the author and contains at present 2461 intentional blends.
