Abstract
Sung-Hun Kim & In-Churl Kim. 2006. Using Multimedia in English Teaching and Evaluation. The Journal of Studies in Language 22.1, 45-64. This paper is concerned with using multimedia in English teaching and evaluation. Multimedia as a means of language teaching has backgrounds in such theories as The Natural Approach, Programmed Instruction, Component Display Theory, Interactive Discovery Learning, and Information Processing Theory. This paper deals with ready-made multimedia programs such as English Discoveries, Interactive English, and ELLIS (English Language Learning and Instruction System) to analyze what components should be included in future multimedia programs. This paper also discusses how to use computer programs, electronic mail, and the Internet to teach English in multimedia classrooms. It is shown in this study that the future of using multimedia in English teaching and evaluation will command a fine prospect as the multimedia industry develops and the abilities and efforts of both the teachers and students involved improve.
