초록

Korean EFL learners are known to have difficulties in using the English definite article due to the lack of an equivalent article system in the Korean language and an appropriate teaching and learning method. This study proposes the cognitive + communicative (C+C) approach in grammar learning by pursuing two goals: (i) to introduce a grammar learning project to learn the use of the definite article, incorporating a TV drama, The Newsroom; (ii) to discuss the effectiveness of the project through an empirical evaluation. The approach advocates the cognitive learning stage model (CLSM), which follows the stages of the cognitive process in the human mind when learning occurs: awareness, conceptualization, proceduralization, and performance stages. The project design and evaluation were developed and analyzed according to these stages.
