초록
This study is aimed to explore the effects of three English reading teaching methods: a metacognitive reading strategy cluster-based teaching method; a metacognitive reading strategy-based teaching method; and a non-strategy based reading teaching method. In order to find the effects of these three teaching methods, one hundred thirteen freshmen college students took one class with one of three different reading teaching methods during a six week program. The study results show that the metacognitive reading strategy cluster-based reading class is the most effective for English reading. Strategy-based reading instructions are more effective than a non-strategy based reading ones. Finally, the participants reported more use of reading strategies and use of strategy clusters after instructions. Based on the results, strategy-based reading instructions are recommended for English reading classes and metacognitive strategy cluster-based instructions for reading is also recommended for EFL reading class.
