Abstract

Cho, Dong-In. 2006. Grammars in Natural Language Processing: From Transformational Grammar to Minimalist Program. The Journal of Studies in Language 22.1, 205-228. Natural Language Processing concerns the extent to which grammatical or linguistic knowledge is brought to bear during the parsing process. This paper discusses the relationship between linguistic theory and the theory of sentence processing. This paper claims that the theory of parsing can be derived from the theory of grammar, suggesting that the principles of GB and Minimalist Program (MP) are involved in human language processing, and that the theory of processing strictly follows the GB and MP theory. It is questionable which grammar make parsers work efficiently in processing natural languages. (Chungnam National University)
