웹기반 사전읽기활동이 교양영어 독해학습에 주는 영향에 관한 연구

Abstract

This paper attempts to diagnose the effect of pre-reading activities on students of differing language ability. Students were categorized as being either upper-level students or regular-level students depending on their grades in a previous semester. Students in both levels were divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental groups were exposed to pre-reading activities on the Internet including background information and vocabulary practice related to the main reading, while the control groups were not provided with any type of pre-reading information. After a semester, there was a significant difference in the results achieved between the two groups in each level, despite the fact that the two groups had started the experiment with insignificant differences between them. The experimental groups of the upper and regular levels performed better than the control groups, which indicates that the web-based pre-reading activities have a significant and recognizable effect on students’ test scores, especially with regard to reading comprehension and vocabulary acquisition. Therefore, this study has supported the previous findings reported elsewhere in other literature.
