Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Nordic Walking Training on gait ability in stroke subjects. This study included 14 stroke subjects. The subjects were randomly assigned to either the experimental group or the control group, with 7 subjects in each group. Both group took general physical therapy. Experimental group took 30-minute of Nordic Walking Training additionally. Outcome measurements included gait speed, number of steps, and the test of walking for 6 minutes. The measurement were recorded before the experiment and after the experiment. The results of study were as follows: There was significant difference for experimental group in gait speed, number of steps, and 6-minute walking(p<.05). However, there was no significant difference for control group(p>.05). All the variables including gait speed, the number of steps, and 6-minute walking measured after the test significantly differed from those measured before the test(p<.05). In conclusion, Nordic Walking Training has a positive effect on patient’s gait ability. Further studies are required to generalize the results of this study.
