Abstract

This study investigated that the effect low extremity strengthening enhanced gait mat training on unstable surface to gait and low extremity strength of elderly. 43 Subjects was elderly people who participated in fall prevent class. Subjects were randomly allocated to experimental(n=21, 74.71±4.42) and control group(n=22, 74.55±3.74). Experimental group underwent gait mat training for one hour session, twice weekly for 8 week. We recorded temporal parameters, spatial parameters, stability of gait, and low extremity strength before and after training. Experimental group showed significant improvement with temporal parameters, spatial parameters and stability of gait(p<.05). Experimental group showed significant improvement with low extremity strength(p<.05). This finding from the present investigation provides evidence of significant improvements in gait ability of elderly who had low extremity strengthening enhanced gait mat training on unstable surface. The result of this study suggests this intervention could be increase the muscle strength and gait ability to prevent falls also, finally improve quality of life.
