Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the reliability and validity of the Short Form-Dynamic Gait Index: 4items(SF-DGI: 4items) for people with stroke. Fifty -one subacute stroke patients were included in the study. Interㆍintra-rater reliability was analysed using the Kappa statistic for each item and Intraclass correlation coefficient(ICC3,1) for the total scores of SF-DGI. Agreement was expressed as the Standard Error Measurement(SEM), and Minimal detectable change(MDC). The validity was tested by correlating results to the Original of DGI Scale, 10m Walking Test (10m WT), Fugl Meyer-Lower/extremity(FM-L/E), Sit to Stand test(STS). Interㆍintra-rater agreement were good or better for SF-DGI(K values ranging from 0.74~0.81 and 0.79~0.85). The ICC for the total SF-DGI scores were excellent (Inter-rater ICC3,1: .92, Intra-rater ICC3,1: .91). The SEMs for both test were less than 10% of the score range(.60 and .64 respectively); MDC of the both test were 1.66 and 1.77 respectively, indicating that SF-DGI had a small and acceptable measure ment error. The SF-DGI change scores(discharge scores-admission scores) were fair correlated to DGI, 10m WT, FM-L/E, STS(r=-.38~.44). The SF-DGI scale was a valid and reliable measure for assessing the ambulation activity of sub-acute stroke patients.
