Abstract
This study was to compare the stimulus of carbonated water and ginger carbonated water and water on suprahyoid muscle activity of the stroke patient who has the symptom of dysphagia. For the study, the 20 stroke patients who had symptom of dysphagia were selected as test subject, and the average and maximum value of the suprahyoid muscle activity of them were measured by surface electromyogram(sEMG). After that, by Visual Analog Scales(VAS), the preference of the taste and stimulation intensity of swallow were measured after swallowing of diet. There was a significant difference on the average and maximum value of suprahyoid muscle activity when swallowed each 5㎖ of water, carbonated water and ginger. The highest value of average and maximum of the stimulus was ginger carbonated water. The most preferred taste average value measured by VAS was water. The highest value of average of stimulation intensity of swallow was ginger carbonated water. Through the study, ginger carbonated water was the most effective on suprahyoid muscle activity of stroke with dysphagia patients. It is expected that ginger carbonated water will be a clinical solution to improve stroke patient's swallowing function.
