뇌부피 차이와 반사회성향 행동: VBM(Voxel Based Morphometry)방법을 이용한 분석

공격적인 행동을 포함하는 정신질환의 강력하고 유효한 생체지표 중 전두엽, 측두엽, 후두엽, 두정엽 영역에서 공격적 행동의 증가와 관련된 회백질량(Gray Matter Volume, GMV)의 감소가 보고된 바 있다. GMV 분석 연구 결과에 의하면 폭력적인 행동과 대뇌피질 부피 사이 긍정적인 상관관계가 존재한다고 보고한다. 본 논문은 Voxel 기반 형태 계측(VBM)을 이용하여 정상 청소년과 반사회 성향 청소년 두 그룹 대상으로 자기공명 영상 자료를 분석하였다. 이를 통해 두 집단 사이 특정 뇌영역의 부피 차이를 알아 볼 수 있다. 결과를 살펴보면 반사회성향 청소년들은 정상 청소년에 비해 전측대상회(Anterior Cingulate Cortex, ACC), 중심앞이랑(Precentral Gyrus), inferior longitudinal fasciculus 부분의 뇌세포 밀도를 나타내는 회질 부피가 통계적으로 유의미하게 적은 것으로 나타났다. ACC 영역의 활성화는 감성, 충동을 억제 조절하거나 타인의 행동에 대해 공감하는 데 관여한다고 알려져있다. 이 부위 부피 소형화는 기능적으로 증명된 다른 연구 결과와 더불어 해부학적으로도 반사회성향 청소년들의 행동 양태에 대한 문제를 다시 한번 표현해준다고 할 수 있다.
Abstract
It has been reported that decreased gray matter volume (GMV) is associated with increased aggressive behavior, in frontal, temporal, occipital and parietal lobe areas. In addition, positive correlations between GMV and violent behavior are reported. The present study compared the cerebral cortex volume change between anti-social adolescent and control group using Voxel Based Morphometry(VBM) of MR images. Significant reduction of gray matter volume was found in Anterior Cingulate Cortex (ACC) together with Precentral Gryus and inferior longitudinal fasciculus. Especially the reduced volume in ACC seems to be related with the lack of emotion, impulse control.
