초록
In the year when the Wangheungsa Temple was built(577), King Wideok dispatched the craftsman of building a Buddhist temple to Japan in order to help Paekche Buddhism, which was already spread to Japan, grow and prosper further in commemoration of completing the Wangheungsa Temple. Being fully supported by Paekche, Asukadera in Japan was completed in 596. One year later in 597, Paekche saw the multiple projects of building Buddhist temples starting off, which leads to an estimation that the projects in both nations were closely related. The Ohamsa Temple completed in 616 was a Buddhist temple to protect Paekche. Regarded as the oldest Buddhist temple site in Minami Gawachi, Japan, the Sindou Temple site is estimated to have the same name as Ohamsa Temple because the location is estimated to have been the headquarters of Paekche Gye family and it was built in the fourth quarter of the seventh century similar to Ohamsa Temple. Thus there is a huge possibility that two Buddhist temples with the same name existed in Paekche and Japan in the same period. It's commonly known that Paekche Buddhism was transmitted to Japan in 538, when King Seong moved the capital from Ungjin to Sabi in order to revive Buddhism. The fact that the same king transmitted Buddhism to Japan in the same year suggests that he hoped to revive Paekche Buddhism and further for its settlement in Japan after moving the capital to Sabi. It's estimated that he transmitted Buddhism after some negotiations with Japan. Paekche's first full-scale Buddhist temple, the Daetongsa Temple was built in 527 during the reign of King Seong. Japan's first full-scale Buddhist temple, Asukadera was built in 587, which was 60 years after the Daetongsa Temple. King Wideok, the son of King Seong, was deeply involved in the construction project of Asukadera to dispatch a large group of craftsmen to Japan. Japan's building its first Buddhist temple exactly 60 years after Paekche's first Buddhist temple seems to be the result of Buddhist negotiations between the two countries.
